I’m going to unsubscribe from all Groupon, Google offers, etc. lists
I get more emails from deal sites, my bank, etc. than from anything else. Junk mail. Sure, some of it is useful, sometimes. Rarely though. I hate junk mail. I grew up never really getting mail, because why would I? Birthday cards and that’s pretty much it. When I got email, I don’t think I appreciated it. I mean I was in school, so I used it for that, for class, and whatever. But since I graduated, I’ve started to appreciate it. It’s the quickest, easiest way to stay in touch with people in a comprehensive way. Think about it - unlike any other medium, you can share almost anything on email, and it’s there right away. Photos, videos, stories, whatever. They can be long or short, you can have many people in the conversation or just one, and it’s right there. And yet, people hate email. Why? People don’t respond, you get insane amounts of email that has nothing to do with you, and just plain frustration from your computer. Ok now I’m rambling.
I appreciate getting emails from my friends more than anything. My favorite thing is to sit in my kitchen on Sunday morning, or in my room late at night, and tell a friend about my life. It’s like having a pen pal like in grade school, but it matters. Well, I don’t do that anymore. I miss it terribly. And getting pointless emails like this just upsets me now. It’s stupid.
People should appreciate email. It’s just as personal as mail, if you treat it that way. Mail, physical mail, is better - because it takes time. But there’s nothing wrong with using email in the same way. Do it. It’s one of the things that makes me the most happy.
